District Governor Ann Sylvia Knoop
Sylvia Knoop began her Rotary journey in January 1990 when she joined the Rotary Anns of the Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn. Her leadership abilities were soon evident, and she served as President of the Anns in 1997/1998. That year marked two significant milestones: the launch of the Beautiful Gardens of Benoni project, which has now celebrated 27 years of success, and the establishment of the Garland Ladies Luncheon Club, which continues to thrive today.
In 2007, Sylvia joined the Nigel Anns and went on to serve as District Governor’s Ann to Beth Thomas. During this highly successful year, the district saw the active participation of 54 Rotary Anns clubs across District 9300.
Following the merger of Districts 9250 and 9300 in 2010, Sylvia was invited in September of that year to become a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora. She continued to distinguish herself in leadership, serving as Club President in 2013/2014 and later taking on the role of Assistant Governor, supporting eight Rotary clubs.
In 2023/2024, Sylvia once again served as President of the Rotary Club, while also maintaining her longstanding commitment as a Rotary Ann, including serving twice as President of the Anns. In recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to Rotary, she has been honoured with two Paul Harris Sapphire Awards.
Sylvia now steps into her new role as incoming District Governor’s Ann to DGE Grace van Zyl. With her extensive experience and passion for service, she is committed to strengthening and growing Rotary Anns clubs across the district.
